Stories from our people: Gloria Brown in the Burt’s Bees BU

In more than 20 years with Clorox, Gloria Brown has witnessed lots of change and evolution within the company. In her current role as plant manager for the Burt’s Bees manufacturing facility, she oversaw one change that was years in the making.

“When I first walked into the plant four years ago, this one production line was a big concern, but there was no easy fix for it,” she says.

Their success in overcoming those challenges is a point of pride for Gloria. “The team was empowered, and they went to work,” she says. “I watched the business case for improvements get developed, presented to the leadership team, get approved, go through the design phase, and now it’s in steady state production.”

Making a meaningful difference in the experience for her team is something Gloria revels in. “The best thing is when I have conversations now with operators who’ve been fighting that piece of equipment for years, and they tell me they had a great shift,” she says. “As a plant manager, I feel like it’s my responsibility to try to make everybody’s lives just a little bit better. Manufacturing work can be very difficult. To hear people talk about how much improved those eight hours are, it really makes me feel like we made an impact. That, to me, is progress.”
